I volunteered at the UWP Blood Drive for a few hours yesterday. I got to check-in people, talk to those giving blood, and learn about a campaign called “Donate 4 Me.” Donate 4 Me is when you donate blood for someone who is part of the LGBTQ community. Why? Men who have been sexually active with another man and/or people who identify as transgender, are not allowed to donate blood until 1 year after the interaction had taken place. “According to a recent study, lifting the ban would result in a 2-4% increase in the overall blood supply (meaning that about 1.8 million more people could be treated).” If you’d like more information regarding Donate 4 Me please talk to your RA! OR join the Facebook page Donate 4 Me!
Donation, not discrimination.
